Head of Art Production is responsible for the operational excellence, structure, and production workflows of the Art Department. In this role, you lead the Art Management team, ensure predictable and high‑quality content delivery, manage resources, and optimize production processes.

This role works closely with the Art Director, who owns artistic quality and visual direction. Within a matrix structure, the Head of Art Production ensures scalability, transparency, and efficiency across all art production streams.

Responsibilities

1. Art Production Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the team of Art Managers.

  • Build and maintain the department structure, define responsibilities, and establish growth paths.

  • Conduct performance reviews, regular 1:1 meetings, and development planning.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and healthy production processes.

2. Production & Process Management

  • Own planning, estimation, tracking, and delivery processes for all art content.

  • Optimize workflows and production pipelines in collaboration with the Art Director.

  • Manage departmental workload and capacity, distributing resources across 2D, 3D, animation, concept, UI, and other art functions.

  • Identify bottlenecks and implement scalable process improvements.

3. Cross‑Department Collaboration

  • Balance creative requirements from the Art Director with production capabilities.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth workflows and alignment.

  • Participate in roadmap planning, milestone coordination, and strategic discussions.

  • Maintain clear communication of progress, risks, priorities, and resource needs.

4. Strategic & Operational Ownership

  • Contribute to resource planning, budgeting, and hiring strategy for the Art Department.

  • Oversee outsourcing workflows and external production pipelines.

  • Define requirements for workflow tools and pipeline enhancements.

  • Ensure up‑to‑date documentation, processes, and internal standards.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Art Production or Art Operations within the game industry.

  • Experience managing managers (not only individual contributors).

  • Strong understanding of 2D and 3D art pipelines, dependencies, and production risks.

  • Proven ability to plan, track, and deliver complex art production for mid‑size or large teams.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in workflow optimization and operational improvements.

  • Experience working within a matrix team structure.

  • Experience with AAA/AA production pipelines.

  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine and PBR workflows.

  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and similar tools.
